THE UK's CHAMPIONSHIP FREERIDE EVENT

BROUGHT TO YOU BY BRITISH FREERIDESUPPORTED BY SNOWSPORT SCOTLAND

The Scottish Freedom Series (SFS) is the UK's Big Mountain Freeride Tour and British Freeride Championships comprising 3 separate weekend events based at some of Scotland's finest lift-served off-piste locations.

2024 DATES

EVENT WEEKEND PROGRAMME

Competitions are scheduled for the Saturday of each weekend with the Sunday held as a backup if conditions are not suitable for the Saturday. All riders are therefore encouraged to make a weekend of it, stay locally, hook-up with other riders and come and join in the spirit of the series and Saturday night gathering. Please note that if an event cannot go ahead at any point over the weekend it will unfortunately have to be cancelled.

On comp days, the programme for the day includes rider check-in and bib issue, a rider briefing, a competition face recce and then the judged competition runs. The day then concludes with an early evening prize giving.

COMPETITION FORMAT

Each competition follows the internationally recognised FWT competition format whereby each rider is judged by a panel of judges on their freeriding performance over a single descent, down the designated off-piste, steep, and often rocky competition face.

Competitors are then scored out of 100, based upon 5 criteria - Line, Fluidity, Jumps, Control and Technique and ranked according to an overall impression score in their respective M/F, Ski/Snowboard category. (Read the scoring guide here). After each event riders gain series points based on their event ranking. After the final event, the competitors with the highest accumulated series points are crowned overall British Freeride Champion for the year.

FREEDOM & EXPRESSION

The Scottish Freedom Series is all about FREEDOM and EXPRESSION - freedom to choose the event(s) you enter, whether you ride solo or as a team, your ride (skis or board) and most importantly how hard you want to “go at it”, and ultimately express yourself.

Events are as much about participation, stoke and friendship as they are about competition. Come alone, or make up a team. Join in the camaraderie and soak up the spirit of a series that celebrates the freedom of the mountain.

ROUND 1 - GLENSHEE G.O.A.T

"This is such a long cruisy freeride face - its great to see it back in the series" - Alex Fleming FAUNA SKIS

GLENSHEE WEEKEND 10/11 Feb 2024

SFS ROUND 1 takes riders to Glenshee for our most accessible freeride competition for newbie competitors with strong off-piste skills. Judged runs will take place on the NE's facing slope to riders right of the Tiger. This 230metre descent offers mix of cruisy terrain, where line, speed and fluidity will likely be your highest scoring criteria. A great option to kick-off the annual series and get everyone together and into the zone.

After all registered riders receive confirmation that the event is going ahead, (the Thursday prior), all riders must pay their event entry fee of £25 using the button below.

ROUND 2 - CORRIE CHALLENGE

"Back Corries is a very special place - an awesome backdrop for a full-on freeride competition, offering steeps and huge drops" Dave Biggin - 4 times British Freeride male ski champion 2012-16.

NEVIS WEEKEND 2/3 Mar 2024

SFS ROUND 2 leads riders westwards to the infamous back corries of the NEVIS RANGE, one of the jewels in the crown of Scottish freeride locations. The competition usually takes place in area around G&T Gully depending upon conditions.

After all registered riders receive confirmation that the event is going ahead, (the Thursday prior), all riders must pay their event entry fee of £25 using the button below.

ROUND 3 - THE COE CUP

"The Coe Cup weekend is my highlight of the year - It's just the best. Every year it more than lives up to expectations."  Katie Small - 5 times British Freeride female ski champion between 2014-2022

WEEKEND 23/24 Mar 2024

SFS ROUND 3, the final round of the series brings riders home to the birthplace of Scottish freeride for the long respected and much heralded Coe Cup.  Flypaper and the East Ridge take no prisoners at the biggest event in the Scottish Freeride calendar with their impressive steeps and unforgiving drops. It's pretty epic just being there for the weekend.  It's the culmination of a season of freeriding, and for some, the TRIUMPH! - Gotta come!!

After all registered riders receive confirmation that the event is going ahead, (the Thursday prior), all riders must pay their event entry fee of £25 using the button below.

CHAMPIONS & RESULTS

Results go back to that first Coe Cup in 2012, when about 50 riders ventured out onto flypaper onto what seemed like the last patch of snow in Scotland. A good few of us were there and remember what an amazing and memorable day it was.

Pictured above are the winners of that 2012 Coe Cup… Look what it started.
